Thing 5 – Reader Reflection

Well, I have to say that the more I read and explore the more facinated I become with all of the technology available. The cynic is dissolving rather like the Wicked Witch of the West!

I recently read a post that I loved titled “Nothing’s Important”.  It was a brief little piece that piqued my interest due to my rather Zen/taoist leanings.  But the post that really struck me was the this same author’s post intitled “Top 5 Qualities of Good Teachers“.  What an upbeat, inspiring piece.  It should be required reading for ALL teachers at the beginning of every academic year to simply remind us what our students need and deserved – not to mention truly want.  I can say this because the post was written by a 15 year old high school student in Vermont.  Even more interesting to me was the fact that many of the comments, to almost all of which he responded, were written by teachers.

This post has helped to wash away many of my fears regarding blogging.  His was not the typical ramblings of a text messaging, hormone infested teenager (cynical, cynical, I know).  This young man was articulate, thoughtful, humorous – read his personal info. piece – and interesting.  My hat is off to him and I will certainly visit his site again just to check in.  Now, I only hope he has someone to hang with outside of the virtual world, you know, toss a ball, go hiking, non-technology stuff!

Good to see a convert to student voice gone global. BTW, Students 2.0 is a group blog of students from across the US, Hawaii, Scotland, and Asia. It’s only six months old, so the number of staff writers (all HS) will grow. Check out Anthony and Lindsea’s posts on there too. Good stuff.
